Exactech Completes 1st Surgeries with Equinoxe PHx System

Exactech announced the first surgeries using its Equinoxe PHx system, marking a milestone in advancing shoulder trauma care.
 
Equinoxe PHx, which earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance in September 2023, features a proximal humerus plate locking system that lets surgeons accommodate different fractures. The 20-plate system touts the company’s Exac-Loc screws with patented tech that uses deployable, retractable talons to increase the fixation’s surface area into the proximal humeral bone.
 
The system was designed by renowned trauma and shoulder specialist team, Kenneth Egol, MD, Franz Kralinger, MD, Markus Scheibel, MD, George Athwal, MD and Joaquin Sanchez-Sotelo, MD.
 
“This new system provides not only a much-improved set of traditional plates for proximal humerus fixation, but also a novel ‘Victory’ plate designed around the importance of tuberosity fixation, a dedicated small-profile plate for the greater tuberosity, and talon technology designed to minimize head settling,” said Dr. Sanchez-Sotelo, who is American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) President Elect, of the Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Mayo Clinic.
 
Exactech expects to begin a limited U.S. launch in Q3 of this year, with further additional markets planned in 2025.
